摘要:
The core of this second volume of From Poverty to Flourishing/Well-being (the first volume published by Policy Press in 2024, focuses on poverty conceptualisation and measurement) is my Marxian Approach (MA) to poverty and human flourishing. It expresses my advances on human poverty and human flourishing/wealth, and includes confronting two of the challenges my approach is facing: what and how to integrate/reject approaches of subjective well-being and the Thomson, Gill, and Goodson 2021 approach. Human poverty/wealth and flourishing conform a broader perspective than economic poverty. The first part of this book starts with a synthesis of the negative bases of my MA, of what I call the critique of the political economy of poverty, developed in full in Volume 1. Then it broaches its positive bases, the little known/discussed Marxian Philosophical Anthropology (MPA) and my critical appropriation of concepts and theories of human needs. The second part describes my MA and some complements to it that look at the future: critical theory, utopian thought, radical needs, and change in the structure of needs. Last, I confront my approach with the current of thought on subjective well-being (SWB) and Thomson, Gill, and Goodson’s approach to well-being. The book finishes by stating that I consider I have formulated a framework for a theory of flourishing/well-being but not yet a theory that can be tested.
